How Members of the Michigan Supreme Court are Selected:

Elections (Partisan Primary, Nonpartisan General)

Justices are nominated via partisan primary elections and then selected in a nonpartisan general election to eight-year terms. Incumbent justices can file to be placed on the general election ballot without undergoing a primary election. General election ballots indicate incumbency but not party affiliation. Interim selections to fill vacancies that occur between elections are made by governor appointment
